Mystery Science Theater 3000 - The Cave Dwellers
We actually were watching The Beatniks, which is a fine episode but unfortunately not available on video (legally, that is). The Cave Dwellers is one of my all-time favorites, though, and is available through Amazon.

August 31st

Hooray! I cut the silk for the chuppah this Sunday, and actually did not make a mistake. Astounding. Sara and I had a little sewing / Mystery Science Theater 3000 festival. She was working on the top for her bridesmaids dress, and I was cutting up large pieces of fabric. I did, in fact, rip the silk, and it was actually a lot of fun! It makes an extremely satifying noise. This lead to lots of silk thread all over the carpet and the couch, but happily both projects were very successful. There's even a fair about of both the silk and the organza left over to wrap the bouquets in. (The organza is actually gold, by the way, I don't know why I said it was white in my previous entry. Clearly I'm under some kind of strain.)

We've decided to do the embroidery on the small pieces first and the assemble the whole thing later. Sara is doing some practice embroidery on the Official Ugly Fabric, and once she's satisfied with that, we'll do the embroidery on the real thing. It was really silly when I sewed the ugly version of the chuppah together just to check that everything worked -- the fabric is this awful, stiff, pink-striped monstrosity, so we dubbed it the Beach Chuppah. I may assemble the Beach Chuppah as well, just for fun. Anyway, once the embroidery is done, I'll piece it together, and my sister Leigh will be in charge of attaching the poles to it. We're not going to try to make it free-standing, though. Besides the fact that I think it looks kind of silly, I can just picture a really big gust of wind coming along and the entire thing flying into the air, knocking the heavily weighted poles onto someone's head.

Speaking of Leigh, she's coming home from Colorado today!!! She's been there all summer, and besides the fact that I really miss her, I need her to get back so she can help me with the rest of the planning. She's been teasing me all summer about the very useful and practical schedule that she worked out for me which I used twice and then ignored completely (sorry, Leigh!). However, even in absentia, she has managed to motivate me to start the chuppah and Sara to finish sewing her bodice so we wouldn't be yelled at.

There will be no further wedding planning tonight. To celebrate Leigh's return, we're going to eat yummy food that Jon is cooking for us (chicken quesadillas and guacamole - yum!) and watching Mystery Science Theater episodes (no, I'm not obsessed, thank you very much) and talking. Woo hoo!

Tomorrow, however, I'll be back at it as Leigh and I work out our Master Plan. In fact, I'm taking the day off work, partly so I can have a really long weekend, but also can work on the Master Plan during a work day, so I can actually make phone calls. That's the most annoying part about trying to plan a wedding while also working full-time -- I can never reach people at night and on the weeekends when I want to make phone calls. I'm at the stage now where I have all the major issues handled, but a zillion details that need to be figured out, and my goal is to deal with as many as possible before my relative start to arrive. Since this is going to be part wedding and part family reunion, I'd like to be able have time to see them before the wedding.

Next time - the Very Intricate Plan!
