PHONE: nothing that special, a very stylish Korean Ringu-style movie. But there's a child actress in it who gives one of the most amazing, creepy performances I've ever seen. I watched her big climax scene over and over, I couldn't believe a 5-year old could act so brilliantly and that she had to be a dwarf or something, but the DVD extras clearly show that she is in fact a child. She kicks Linda Blair's ass. Highly recommended.

CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST

Death Line
It featured cannibal ghouls living in an abandoned section of the London tube lines. Had plenty of gore and guts in many ways very similar to the Texas Chainsaw massacre which it predates by a couple of years.

Attic Expeditions
A bad plot regarding a magic book which may not
exist, but starring Jeffrey Coombs as an absolutely awesome mad doctor,
reminiscent of Re-Animator. It also stars Seth Green as another good laugh
in the movie.
suggested by Allen
Castle Freak
A little older where Coombs inherits a castle
which contains a "freak." Coombs is a tragic hero in it which is
refreshing. A good one with some good gore and plot.

The Evil
I think you should do "The Evil" if you can find a live copy--it's the old flick I mentioned during class. It was filmed on the property of an old hotel that soon after filming became a campus building at a school I attended. Tradition at the time I attended was that we'd show the movie as one of the social activities during orientation for first-year students. The kicker was that our "theater" was one of the porches of the Castle, one of the places where someone dies in the movie!! A terribly predictable movie, but amusing nonetheless.
And here's a link to the school page so you can explore the Castle (now). Tidbits conspicuously missing from the Castle bio: The very first Montezuma Hotel, built very near the current site, burned down. A second Montezuma Hotel, built on the current site, also burned down. Passage of time and lack of use/upkeep had left the third (current) hotel in bad shape well before the crew of The Evil rented it for nearly nothing, but they did a pretty good job destroying some of what had survived, instead of using movie magic to create stunt doubles for the architecture. Oh, well. Such is the price of cinematic progress.
