Killer Rats Cake
The Killer Rats Cake was made for Son of Zombiefest, our celebration of the posting of our 300th review. Like its illustrious predecessor, The Zombie Cake, The Killer Rats Cake began life as a pattern for a carved pumpkin. Both the pumpkin and the cake depict a severed human arm being devoured by three large, ugly rats. The cake arm was constructed in layers, from the inside out, so that a slice of the cake looked like a cross-section of an arm, complete with ulna, radius, bone marrow, skin, etc.
Flaming Bridezilla Cake
The Bridezilla Cake. It breathed fire, via a shot of rum in its mouth which was ignited. Look at the pink claws! The glint in its eye which says, "this was NOT on my registry!" The royal icing lace on its veil!
I created this cake for good friend's bridal shower, and I'm delighted to say that she really liked it. It's pretty easy to make, and it could easily be adapted for any other fire-breathing monsters you feel the need to create in cake. Just make sure the intended recipient is actually going to find it funny and not horribly insulting.
Thorax Cake
Barbara Jo generally makes a bleeding heart cake for Pumpkinfest. Sometimes the heart beats, sometimes it's anatomically correct, and so on and so forth. This year she decided to go the whole hog and make an entire thoracic cavity cake. There's a complete rib cage and spinal column there, which create a delightful presentation for the heart, lungs, stomach, kidneys, and small intestine, each of which is a different delicious flavor of cake.

And here we have our collection of pumpkins we carved in 2003, both at Pumpkinfest and pretty much the entire week of Halloween.
Zombiefest
Would you like to make a giant bleeding zombie cake that serves 150 and scares all your friends? No? Well, would you like to know how we did it? This cake was the centerpiece at Zombiefest, our party to celebrate the completion of 100 reviews for theyrecoming.com. It's essentially a 3-dimensional version of our logo, sculpted out of cake and various chocolate and sugar details. At the height of the party we gathered everyone around it to witness the thrilling moment when raspberry flavored blood spurted from his eyes and poured from his mouth.
